Several times a day, I get a notification saying “Your Windows 10 upgrade is ready! Click here to schedule your free upgrade. However, this has been going on for about a week now and when I click on “download progress” I don’t get any kind of progress – just a scanning bar saying “checking for updates.

Does this mean the upgrade is not working, or does it really take days and days to download background files without showing progress?

I am having the same issue and this is what is happening. Yesterday I tried to update two identical computers, purchased the same day, same manufacturer, same model number, same drive, same internet connection.

After checking the windows icon in the lower right hand corner, I received the “downloading in the background” message.

After clicking “check on download” the computer would begin “checking for updates” and then after a while report that no updates were available. This was a completely different experience than occurred on the identical computer, or on another laptop I updated yesterday.

So, two updates yesterday that went smoothly – and one that says it is downloading but it is not. I left the machine on for hours. I made to try updating while the other computers weren’t even connected tothe internet and were turned off – nothing. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. I went and got the tool and it took a few hours and works fine , is not that hard to use the tool.
